YouTube is a video sharing website on which users can upload, share, and view videos uploaded mostly by individuals. YouTube displays a wide variety of user-generated video content including movie clips, TV clips, and music videos, as well as amateur content such as video blogging and short original videos.
One of the key features of YouTube is the ability of users to view its videos on web pages outside the site. Each YouTube video is accompanied by a piece of code, which can be used to embed it on a page outside the YouTube website. This functionality is often used to embed YouTube videos in social networks such as facebook, as well as personal blogs!
YouTube is a fantastic tool for Hairstylists as it gives you an opportunity to introduce yourself, showcase your work, and build up a loyal following of people from around the world! Which, altogether, bring you more business!
How to get started
To get started, simply sign up on YouTube by filling out the form, or login with Facebook Connect!
After signing up, choosing your username, and confirming your email address, it’s time to get started! Go to the upper right hand corner where you see your username, click on the drop down menu and click on “My Channel.”
Make sure to fill in information about yourself or your salon to make the most of the YouTube channel. Play around with the themes and settings to give your channel a nice look, and to control what is displayed on your page, and make sure to update the bulletin feature to send out messages to your followers.
(Please Note: To achieve some of the more professional looking YouTube channels, you will have to hire a graphic designer to design the page for you)
What type of content to upload
The content you upload is really up to you! You can upload a promotional video about your salon, a video of your work during a photo shoot, or a how-to tutorial video to teach your followers how to achieve great looks on the go!
Watch these videos to get an idea of three very different, but very good examples of what type of content to upload on your YouTube channel!
Remember that the videos you upload to YouTube can and should always be shared on all of your other social networks for maximum exposure! Make sure to embed your website, facebook page, or any other means of contact directly INTO your videos to remind people to get in touch with you!
So now that you know how to setup a YouTube channel, get to it! Start adding your videos to the channel, follow other YouTube channels you admire, and don’t forget to SHARE!
If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, leave them in the comments box, and I will be sure to get back to you!
